What If I Take an Overdose of Acyclovir Ointment?

An overdose of acyclovir ointment through the skin is unlikely, as it is not absorbed much into the bloodstream. However, overdose symptoms may be possible if the medication is ingested.
 
If you happen to overdose on this product, seek immediate medical attention.

How Should It Be Stored?

Acyclovir ointment should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep it in its original tube. Keep this and all other medications out of the reach of children.
 

What Should I Do If I Miss a Dose?

If you do not use your acyclovir ointment as scheduled, apply your missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.
 

Can I Buy Acyclovir Ointment?

Currently, there is no generic acyclovir ointment licensed for sale (see Generic Zovirax Ointment).

Acyclovir ointment is made by Biovail Pharmaceuticals.
 

Available Strengths

Acyclovir ointment is available in one strength -- Acyclovir 5% Ointment in a 15-gm tube.
