Generic Zovirax
Since the patent for the brand-name drug has since expired, generic Zovirax is now available. As with the brand-name version, the generic form is used to treat chickenpox, shingles, and genital herpes. The FDA has assigned an "AB" rating to generic Zovirax, which means that it should be equivalent to the brand-name version, although it may have different inactive ingredients.
This article focuses on the oral forms of Zovirax.

Zovirax is made by GlaxoSmithKline. However, the patent for the drug has expired, and generic Zovirax is now available.
Generic Zovirax tablets are available in two strengths:
- Acyclovir 400 mg
- Acyclovir 800 mg.
Generic Zovirax capsules are available in one strength -- acyclovir 200 mg.
Generic Zovirax suspension is available in one strength -- Acyclovir Suspension 200 mg per 5 mL (200 mg per teaspoonful).
